Handmade Industrials is an autonomous design studio, known for their innovative ways of merging industry and craft. By introducing human intervention in de-humanized industrial processes, Rutger and Marlies create a wide range of unique handmade objects.
Derived from the their process based design practice and the necessity to bring back the human element in the production process, they elevate anonymous industrial materials into individual objects with their own identity and character.
Their objects ‘while residing in multiple museum collections’ are made to be used and come to life when interacted with. Their hands-on approach and self-developed production processes enables them to create customized and site specific objects. This creates vast opportunities for clients who need unique, custom or one-off furniture that can be used as interior site specific work or props and in specific spaces or for special occasions.
